Im festgefahrenen Handelskonflikt zwischen den USA und Kanada lässt US-Präsident Donald Trump die Situation eskalieren. Ab dem 1. Januar 2027 will er die Importabgaben für Autos, große und kleine Lastwagen, Autoteile und Stahl auf 50 Prozent erhöhen, wie er auf seiner Plattform Truth Social mitteilte. Wie in der Vergangenheit könnten Unternehmen die Zölle umgehen, indem sie in den USA produzierten, hieß es weiter. Derzeit fordern die USA nach kanadischen Angaben auf Basis von Abschnitt 232 des "Trade Expansion Acts" aus dem Jahr 1962 Zölle in Höhe von 25 Prozent auf importierte Auto, Lastwagen und entsprechende Teile. Zudem erheben sie bei Stahl, Aluminium und Kupfer Importabgaben von 10 bis 50 Prozent. Trump begründete seine Drohung erneut damit, dass Kanada die Vereinigten Staaten seit Jahren "ausbeute"..

"Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years," wrote President Trump in his latest social media outburst, laying out his tariff torrent against Canada.
"Their ridiculously high tariffs on our Farmers and farm products has made life impossible for these great American Patriots, and has long created a 60 Billion Dollar Deficit between our two Countries.
Not sustainable, and NOT ANYMORE!"
The US implemented a new 50% tax on imports of hundreds of Canadian items including furniture, plastics, plywood and electrical equipment on Saturday.
It's such a high rate that it may cut off the world's biggest market for some Canadian enterprises.
