Ghana gilt als eine der politisch stabileren Volkswirtschaften Westafrikas und verfügt über reiche Rohstoffvorkommen sowie eine vergleichsweise gut entwickelte Infrastruktur. Gleichzeitig ist das Land stark von Rohstoffexporten abhängig, leidet unter Staatsverschuldung, Währungsschwankungen und sozialer Ungleichheit. Die Wirtschaft wird maßgeblich vom Gold- und Erdölsektor getragen. Daneben spielen Kakaoanbau, Landwirtschaft, Handel sowie Dienstleistungen eine wichtige Rolle.
