Zentrale Wirtschaftssektoren sind die Landwirtschaft, die für Beschäftigung und Ernährungssicherung entscheidend ist, sowie der Bergbau und die Rohstoffförderung. Daneben gewinnen der Energiesektor, Telekommunikation, Handel und in einigen Regionen auch Industrie und Tourismus zunehmend an Bedeutung.
