Standard Chartered's third-quarter net profit rose 10 per cent, as strong growth in cross-border trade loans and wealth management buffered one of Hong Kong's three note-issuing banks from the city's commercial property slump and helped it beat analysts' estimates.

Standard Chartered second-quarter profit rises 54% (SCMP)

Standard Chartered said on Thursday its second-quarter net profit rose 54 per cent from a year earlier, driven by strong growth in cross-border trades and wealth businesses that offset rising bad debt, as it unveiled a US$1.3 billion share repurchase plan.

Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong stocks will rise in the second half as Beijing's policy support is expected to revive earnings growth, according to Standard Chartered and UBS Group.
Standard Chartered was overweight on allocations to Chinese equities due to the de-escalation of tariff tensions with the US following the signing of a framework agreement last week, the UK bank said in a report on the second-half outlook on Monday.
