Nintendo's Switch 2 Becomes "Fastest-Selling Hardware Ever Globally"
Goldman Sachs gaming analysts Minami Munakata and Haruki Kubota were spot on in forecasting the explosive popularity of Nintendo's newly released Switch 2, which shattered records with millions of units in sales in just four days.
Nintendo wrote on X late Tuesday night that it sold over 3.5 million Switch 2 consoles in just four days, surpassing the original Switch's first-month sales of 2.7 million back in 2017.
Switch 2 has become "the fastest-selling Nintendo hardware ever globally," the Japanese gaming company said. This strong sales momentum sets a strong pace toward the company's goal of 15 million units sold by March 2026.

Goldman Thinks Nintendo's Switch 2 Will Blow Away Estimates, Sees No Supply Constraints
Nintendo's first sales forecast for its highly anticipated Switch 2 console came in at 15 million units for the fiscal year ending March—falling short of Bloomberg's analyst consensus of 16.8 million. The miss may reflect growing trade uncertainty and mounting macroeconomic headwinds souring consumer sentiments. The console is slated for release in June.
Goldman gaming analysts Minami Munakata and Haruki Kubota said Nintendo executives typically provide "conservative" estimates before any new console launch.
Here's Munakata and Kubota's first take on the weaker-than-expected sales forecast for Switch 2:
FY3/26 guidance calls for operating profits of ¥320 bn (+13.3% yoy), assuming shipments of 15 mn units for Switch 2 hardware and 45 mn units for software. This is well below GSe (¥483.6 bn) and the Bloomberg consensus (¥449.3 bn).
However, we would note that Nintendo's guidance ...

Nintendo Switch 2 Frenzy: "Selling Out" Across US Retailers As Tariffs Won't Impact Pricing
U.S. families with young gamers can breathe a sigh of relief this week as Goldman analysts told clients that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 won't see price hikes due to the ongoing trade war.
Nintendo's hotly anticipated Switch 2 is now available for pre-orders at major U.S. retailers as of early Thursday morning.
According to the tech blog Tom's Guide, demand for the new console is so intense that major retailers' websites are crashing, with "sold out" notifications appearing across some platforms operated by Walmart, Target, and Best Buy.
Nintendo Switch 2 will retail for $449, with the Mario Kart World bundle costing $499.
The good news for U.S. families who are avoiding tariff landmines as President Trump tries to negotiate an 'America First' trade deal with the Communist Chinese is that Goldman gaming analysts Minami Munakata and Haruki Kubota said console prices...

Tariff Turmoil Delays Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders; Will This Derail Goldman's Bull Call On Mario Kart-Maker
We suspect Goldman analysts Minami Munakata and Haruki Kubota will soon update clients on today's report from The Verge. The report reveals that Nintendo is delaying preorders for the new Switch 2 due to the fallout from President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariff blitz and China's retaliatory measures, which are roiling global markets and trade.
Nintendo spokesperson Eddie Garcia told The Verge:
Preorders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.
Nintendo plans to launch the Nintendo Switch 2 (the successor to the Nintendo Switch) on June 5. There's still no word from Garcia about when preorders will begin.
There's still no word on Switch 2 pricing following the new effect...

Nintendo Shares Jump After Goldman Sees Switch 2 Unlocking Dormant Users
Nintendo shares in Tokyo posted their biggest gain in months after Goldman analysts Minami Munakata and Haruki Kubota resumed coverage of 11 Japanese companies in the games, entertainment, and internet sector. The analysts noted that "the global games market re-entered a growth phase since 2024" and forecasted "the number of active consoles to continue renewing fresh highs globally from 2025."
Munakata expects the near-term rollout of Nintendo Switch 2 (the successor to the Nintendo Switch) will "unlock dormant hardware and dormant users" and send "the number of active consoles to continue to renew record highs."
"Nintendo plans to launch the Switch 2 in 2025, with details due to be announced on April 2," the analyst said, adding the reason for increased demand for Switch 2 is because of its "unique feature" that allows "and friends to play games togeth...
