AI computing stock panic over Meta cloud rumour ′erroneous′, analysts say (SCMP)
A panic over excess computing capacity for artificial intelligence was “erroneous”, according to a report by research firm SemiAnalysis, after a global sell-off erased billions of dollars in value from semiconductor stocks on Thursday.
Spooked investors interpreted a potential pivot by Meta Platforms into cloud services as a sign of an AI hardware glut, as they feared the US tech giant was preparing to flood the market with unused graphics processing units.

Analysis: Will 3Q26 be peak season? Cloud AI stands alone; demand signals become distorted (Digitimes)
As the electronics industry enters the second half of 2026, it is approaching what has traditionally been the peak season for demand. However, macroeconomic and geopolitical factors have disrupted normal business cycles across many applications, making seasonal patterns far less predictable. Analysis: MediaTek’s long game in cloud silicon (Digitimes)
MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai set the climate for the company's growth trajectory at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) 2026, centering his keynote speech on cloud AI. MediaTek will no longer be just the IC design company heavily reliant on smartphones, consumer electronics, and wireless communication chips. Instead, it is transforming into an AI system solutions provider that works closely with the semiconductor supply chain, major cloud service providers (CSPs), and AI model developers in the cloud AI market. Its years of investment in high-performance computing (HPC) and related technologies are now beginning to pay off....
