China Unicom Taps Veteran Executive as Chairman to Navigate Telecom Transition (Caixin)
Dong Xin, a seasoned telecom executive, has been appointed chairman and Communist Party chief of China United Network Communications Group Co. Ltd., known as China Unicom, marking his return to the industry following nearly two years in a top media regulatory role.
The 59-year-old's appointment was announced Wednesday, filling the vacancy left after former chairman Chen Zhongyue was tapped to lead rival China Mobile Group Co. Ltd. on Oct. 28. Since then, General Manager Jian Qin had been managing daily operations at China Unicom.
The appointment completes a sweeping leadership reshuffle across China's major state-owned telecom operators, as they face stagnating growth in legacy services and push to unlock new revenue sources through emerging technologies.
An industry source told Caixin that Dong's selection came as little surprise, given his blend of seniority and commercial expertise. Dong and Jian previously worked together at China Mobile, which the source said could aid smoother collaboration withi...

DENVER, Colorado & LUXEMBOURG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Liberty Latin America Ltd. (“Liberty Latin America” or “LLA”) (NASDAQ: LILA and LILAK, OTC Link: LILAB) and Millicom International Cellular S.A. (“Millicom”) (NASDAQ: TIGO) confirm that Costa Rica's Board of Telecommunications Superintendency, SUTEL, has issued its final resolution with a decision not to approve the proposed transaction to combine the companies' respective operations in Costa Rica.
The companies remain convinced that the transaction would have enabled greater technology investment, strengthened market competitiveness, and accelerated the expansion of next-generation networks, directly benefiting users and Costa Rica's digital ecosystem.
The outcome was unexpected as both parties maintained an open and ongoing dialogue with SUTEL throughout the review process and developed a comprehensive set of commitments that the companies firmly believe addressed any potential concerns. The companies respectfully disagree with the regulator...
