SpaceX Targets 80,000 Cell Sites To Challenge Telecom Giants As Wall Street Weighs In
Elon Musk is accelerating plans to build a fourth major nationwide wireless carrier, with SpaceX seeking access to at least 80,000 US cell sites, according to Bloomberg News. The prospect of a new rival to AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile lifted tower stocks in premarket trading, while shares of those legacy carriers fell as traders continued to assess that new emerging competitive threat.
The report stated that SpaceX is in talks with a number of tower companies, including Crown Castle, which, along with American Tower Corp. and Vertical Bridge Holdings, is among the largest owners of cellular towers.
"You can assume that we're talking to all parties," Crown Castle CEO Chris Hillabrant said Wednesday when asked about discussions with SpaceX, Amazon and other satellite telecommunications providers.

Die von Tech-Milliardär Elon Musk geführten Unternehmen Tesla und SpaceX prüfen einen rekordträchtigen Zusammenschluss... -- Musk machte in der Videokonferenz wie so oft weitreichende Versprechen. So sagte er, dass die große SpaceX-Rakete Starship, die bisher erst 14 Mal testweise flog, gegen Ende kommenden Jahres zweimal pro Woche starten solle. Vor drei Monaten hatte er allerdings noch von täglichen Starts gesprochen. Auch kündigte Musk an, dass die Zahl der Starlink-Satelliten binnen drei Jahren auf 100.000 steigen werde. Nach jüngsten Angaben waren es etwas mehr als 10.000.. --- Im vergangenen Quartal verbuchte SpaceX nach langer Durststrecke einen Milliardengewinn. Auslöser waren vor allem kräftige Zuwächse im Geschäft mit Internet aus dem All sowie mit KI-Rechenzentren.. --- Die KI-Erlöse schossen von 813 Mil.
