Five Reasons Why Trump Is Once Again Escalating Against Russia
Authored by Andrew Korybko via Substack,
It was earlier assessed that “The Next Putin-Trump Meeting Might Lead To Something Tangible This Time Around” due to newfound mutual interests in reaching a deal, but then Trump canceled the Budapest Summit on the grounds that he didn't think it'd be worth his time.
He also imposed new energy sanctions on Russia and might be lying about not having approved Ukraine's use of long-range missiles.
Trump's latest flip-flop surprised many but can be attributable in hindsight to the following five reasons:
1. He's Driving A Hard Bargain To Coerce Putin Into Maximum Concessions
Russia's minimum goal is to obtain full control over Donbass, without which Putin can't hypothetically freeze (let alone end) the war without “losing face”. Trump refuses to coerce Zelensky into withdrawing from there, instead believing that he can coerce Putin into freezing the conflict without f...

Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will meet for summit talks within the next few days, the Kremlin said Thursday.
Russia and the US have agreed on a venue for the meeting and “together with our American colleagues, we are starting to work on specific issues,” with a goal for the talks to take place next week, Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters, according to the Interfax news service. He didn't identify where the summit will be held. The announcement came a day after Putin met with Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff in the Kremlin for nearly three hours of talks as the US pushed for an end to Russia's war in Ukraine.
Today's guests: Jari Stehn, Goldman Sachs Chief European Economist, Mario Greco, Zurich Insurance Group CEO, Thomas Borer, Dr. Borer & Partner Founder and Managing Partner and former Swiss Ambassador to Germany, Richard Bloxam, JLL Capital Markets CEO (Source: Bloomberg)...

Finland Bans Russians From Buying Property As Zelensky Says 'Hatred' For Them Is Justified
On Friday Finland's parliament unanimously approved a government proposal for a complete ban on real estate acquisitions from Russian nationals. The country's leaders are hailing that the resolution was passed.
The Finnish Defense Ministry announced Friday that the measure aims to strengthen national security and that "This decision sends a clear message: we will not allow Finland to be undermined," according to the statement.

It applies to those from countries which "wage a war of aggression and pose a potential threat to Finland's national security" - who are now barred from carrying out real estate transactions.
Finland will of course deny that its policies which target Russians are racist or xenophobic based on the following caveat:
The ban would not apply to Russians or other foreigners with a Finnish permanent residence permit or an EU residen...

'Terrorist Attack' Rocks Russian Consulate In France On 3-Year Ukraine War Mark
A suspected terror attack has taken place against the Russian consulate in the French city of Marseille on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has confirmed, after explosions erupted inside the consulate's walls. Three explosive devices were thrown onto the grounds of the consulate which detonated, resulting in damage but no casualties. The diplomatic compound has subsequently been sealed off by police pending an investigation.
The attack corresponded to the three-year anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Russian Army poured across the borders from Russia and staging grounds in Belarus on February 24, 2022.
There are reports that one of the devices failed to detonate, and the building in the southern port city is swarming with police and firefighters, as "around thirty units" were dispatched to the scene, AFP describes. The device that did not explode was later...
