Xiaomi's long-term push into proprietary silicon is laying the groundwork for complex artificial intelligence workloads on smartphones and cars, analysts say, as the Chinese tech giant doubles down on self-developed chips despite an earnings slump and soaring component costs.
On Monday it unveiled its flagship Xring O3 3-nanometre AI processor for smartphones, which is scheduled to debut in September aboard its Xiaomi 18 Fold smartphone.

Xiaomi Corporation's second quarter showed a company being squeezed from both ends of its business at once: a surging memory-chip bill eating into its core smartphone margins, and its smart EV, AI, and other new initiatives segment still reporting a loss even as vehicle deliveries grow. Revenue for the three months ended June 30, 2026, fell 6.1% year-on-year to CNY108.92 billion (US$16.13 billion), and the company's preferred profitability gauge, adjusted net profit, nearly halved, down 42.6% to CNY6.22 billion — a far steeper decline than the top line, signaling that cost pressure, not just demand, is doing the damage....

Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has said it is “in no rush” to convert its large investments in artificial intelligence into profit, after recording another decline in net profits in the second quarter amid intense competition and cost inflation.
“Our investment in AI is currently still in a phase of large-scale input. However, as a large corporation, Xiaomi is in no rush to pursue immediate monetisation,” said Alain Lam, the firm's vice-president and chief financial officer, during an earnings......
