Greenland Mining Company Plans To Double Size Of Rare-Earth Mine As US Signs Agreement

Days after President Donald Trump announced a security agreement with Greenland and Denmark, Greenland Mines applied on Sept. 21 to double the size of its rare earth mine to supply magnet metals needed for electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defense systems on the island.
The North Carolina-based company's Sarfartoq rare earth district in southwest Greenland would expand from 74 square miles to about 175 square miles if approved.
"This application is about building Sarfartoq at district scale," said Bo Moller Stensgaard, president of Greenland Mines in a statement.
Greenland Mines is developing a rare earth neodymium and praseodymium project that could reduce the Western Hemisphere's dependence on China for the magnet rare earth minerals. China-based processors control at least 75 percent of the global market for all rare earth elements.

Critical Metals jumped 37.5% to $9.22, while Greenland Energy surged 126% and Greenland Mines soared 136% on news this past weekend that President Trump had announced a security deal with Denmark and Greenland. This is fueling Wall Street's expectations of greater US access to the territory's mineral resources.
Trump said Friday in a lengthy Truth Social post that the US had reached a deal with Denmark and Greenland granting it control over Greenland's security. Danish and Greenlandic officials said the agreement preserves Greenland's sovereignty.
"At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland to secure and defend the security of Greenland, and the United States of America," Trump stated.

Critical Metals Shares Surge 40% After Expanding Rare Earth Mining Position In Greenland
Critical Metals Corp. shares have surged as much as 45% in trading today after the company significantly expanded its position in Greenland's Tanbreez rare earth project, tightening its grip on a resource it sees as central to a US-friendly supply chain, according to Bloomberg.
It marks the biggest intraday gain in half a year and lifting the company's valuation to roughly $1.7 billion.
According to documents reviewed by Bloomberg, the firm raised its ownership to 92.5% by purchasing the remaining 50.5% stake it previously didn't control from Rimbal Pty Ltd. The company confirmed the transaction in a statement released Friday.
