UBS Reactivates Supply-Chain Stress Watch After Detecting Alarmingly Rapid Deterioration
One week after Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc warned CNBC of a "new wake-up call" for global trade amid the ongoing disruption of the Strait of Hormuz and a deepening energy crisis that could intensify further in June, UBS analysts are out with a new note telling clients they have "reactivated" their Global Supply Chain Stress Index in response to increasingly alarming signals emerging across global logistics networks.
"Supply chain stress is rising at its fastest pace since the early pandemic," UBS analyst Pierre Lafourcade wrote in a note on Sunday.
Lafourcade explained that global supply chain stress is emerging quickly, with the index rising by 1.2 standard deviations in March and April, the second-largest two-month jump since July 2020.

Russian military blogger Mikhail Zvinchuk, the operator behind the Rybar Telegram channel, recently surfaced in an interview with the Chinese outlet Guancha, offering a non-Western assessment of the ten-week U.S.-Iran war.

Maersk CEO Warns Iran War Is A "New Wake-Up Call" For Global Trade
It is becoming increasingly clear that reopening the Strait of Hormuz has become a top U.S. priority (really a global priority) , as oil executives and industry insiders warn that the clock is ticking toward an energy and global trade shock if the maritime chokepoint remains closed for another month.
Frederic Lasserre, head of research at Gunvor, one of the world's largest oil traders, warned earlier this week: "The tipping point is clearly June. This is the point at which something has to give."
JPMorgan analysts warned that the world is spiraling toward a catastrophic cliff-edge shortage of crude oil if the maritime chokepoint is blocked for another four weeks.
Speaking to CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe" earlier this morning, Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc warned that a "new wake-up call" has emerged beyond energy markets and that if the Hormuz chokepoint remains shuttered, it could severely impact global trade in the coming months.

Durch höhere Treibstoffpreise entstünden bei Maersk monatlich Extrakosten von rund drei Milliarden Dänische Kronen (402 Millionen Euro). Entlastung sei nicht in Sicht: "Die Energiekrise ist nicht an dem Tag vorbei, an dem der Frieden beginnt" --- Eine anziehende Nachfrage bescherte dem Kooperationspartner der Hamburger Containerreederei Hapag-Lloyd vielmehr ein Quartalsergebnis über den Markterwartungen: Bei einem Umsatz von fast 13 Mrd USD erwirtschaftete der Konzern einen operativen Gewinn von 1,75 Mrd USD.
