Russia Takes Three More Ukraine Villages, With World Focused On Iran War
As all eyes are on the emerging Israel-Iran aerial war, and as ballistic missiles fly over Middle East skies, Russian forces have made more gains in Eastern Ukraine.
"Russian forces took control of three new Ukrainian villages — Yablonovka in the northeastern Sumy region, and Koptevo and Komar in the eastern Donetsk region," the Russian Defense Ministry indicated Friday.

"The state TASS news agency cited the ministry as saying that Russian troops had captured six Ukrainian villages over the past week," Reuters also notes.
This also comes after earlier this month Russian forces expanded ground operations into a more central oblast, in an escalation and expanded offensive:
Russian forces have secured a small foothold in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region for the first time since the early weeks of the full-scale war in 2022, The New York Times reported Friday.

China is pushing back hard against new Western criticisms of its foreign policy, as French President Emmanuel Macron and US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth went on the attack, hurling sharp criticisms at Beijing during the ongoing Shangri-La Dialogue security summit in Singapore, which noticeably China's Defense Minister Dong Jun chose to skip.
A fresh, strident Chinese denunciation was formulated at the United Nations in New York. Beijing typically is very careful with its Ukraine war statements, seeking to present itself as an outside, neutral and objective mediator, urging peace. But now Chinese officials are blistering angry over the ramped-up anti-China messaging coming from Washington and Europe. The rhetoric is clearly getting less restrained on all sides, as increasingly hot spots in Eastern Europe get closely linked to Asian flashpoints.

The Kremlin on Friday revealed that Russia's negotiating team for the next round of direct peace talks with Ukraine, scheduled for Monday in Istanbul, will remain unchanged, with Putin aide Vladimir Medinsky again leading the delegation. During the first talks, Russia's team was met with widespread skepticism - given how 'low level' it was, and it didn't so much as include Foreign Minister and veteran diplomat Sergei Lavrov.
Currently, the Zelensky government is threatening to boycott the Monday meeting, given that Moscow has reportedly yet to hand over a draft outline of its peace terms.

Ukrainian Media Outlet Leaks Alleged Trump Plan To End The War

The Ukrainian news outlet Strana has published leaked details of President Trump's alleged plan to end the war in Ukraine in 100 days.
According to Newsweek, which said it couldn't verify if the details were accurate, the plan starts with holding a phone call between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in late January or early February, followed by meetings with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in February or March.

The leaked plan calls for a ceasefire to be declared by Easter, which falls on April 20. The truce would involve Ukraine withdrawing troops from Russia's Kursk Oblast.
Once the ceasefire comes into effect, a peace conference will begin hammering out the details of a lasting agreement. The plan calls for a deal to be reached by May 9.

Major Ukrainian media outlets are asking for donations following the Trump administration's 90-day foreign aid pause since many of them are funded by the US government.
Ukrainian-Canadian professor and researcher Ivan Katchanovski noted on X that the Ukrainian online newspaper Strana.ua reported that two outlets — Hromadske and Bihus.Info — acknowledged in their fundraising pitches that they lost US funding.
