Lebanon has named Karim Souaid as its new central bank governor. Souaid is the founder of Dubai-based private equity firm, Growthgate Partners, and has previously worked at HSBC. But Kim Ghattas, author of Black Wave told Bloomberg's Horizons Middle East and Africa host Joumanna Bercetche that many in Lebanon are disappointed by the appointment of a former banker.

Lebanon's international dollar bonds rally after Syria rebels oust Assad LONDON, Dec 9 (Reuters) - Lebanon's international dollar bonds rallied on Monday after rebels in neighbouring Syria ousted President Bashar al-Assad , fuelled by expectations the events could weaken Lebanese armed group Hezbollah and bring change to the country. The 2031 bond gained the most, up 0.75 cents to bid at 11.59 cents on the dollar, its highest level since April 2022, Tradeweb data showed....

Israel Expands Lebanon Strikes To Banks Helping Hezbollah
Israel on Sunday night began fresh, heavy airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs as well as in the Bekka Valley in the east of Lebanon, for the first time declaring it would target banks suspected of financing Hezbollah.
"The air force will launch extensive strikes on targets in the southern suburb of Beirut, targeting Hezbollah-linked economic assets," IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said as strikes were underway. Buildings that belong to al-Qard al-Hassan Association are at the top of the list, identified by the Israelis as long associated with the Shia paramilitary group backed by Iran.

Israel Strikes Lebanon's Northernmost City For First Time Of War
An Israeli drone bombed a Palestinian refugee camp in the Lebanese city of Tripoli, killing a Hamas leader and three members of his family in the early hours of Saturday.
Al-Jadeed TV channel reported that "an Israeli drone targeted a residential apartment in the vicinity of Khalil al-Rahman Mosque in the Beddawi camp in Tripoli," killing four people and injuring others who were transported to the Hilal Hospital inside the camp.

Hamas issued a statement announcing the death of Qassam Brigades commander, Saeed Atallah Ali, his wife Shaima Khalil Azzam, and his two young daughters, Zainab and Fatima, who were killed as a result of the airstrike.
