Im belgischen Mol nahe Antwerpen hat jetzt der Bau eines Beschleunigers für Protonen begonnen, die in einem speziellen Reaktor Atommüll umwandeln sollen, sodass er nicht mehr Jahrzehntausende radioaktiv ist, sondern nur noch einige 100 Jahre. Transmutation nennt sich das Verfahren.
