Apple Faces Possible China Probe; Trump Says US Should Take Over Gaza | Bloomberg The Pulse (Bloomberg)
|
|
Donald Trump said the US should take control of the devastated Gaza Strip. “The US will take over the Gaza Strip,” Trump said Tuesday during a White House news conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “We'll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site.” In Israel, most politicians welcomed Trump's remarks, saying they were an original way of trying to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In the rest of the Middle East, the reaction was negative. The Palestine Liberation Organization, which represents political groups in Gaza and the West Bank, said it was “steadfast” in opposing any displacement of Gazans from their “homeland.” In other news, China's antitrust watchdog is examining Apple's policies, including taking a cut of up to 30% on in-app spending and barring external payment services and stores. US-Built Gaza Pier To Be Dismantled Early Amid Ongoing Failures
Following the latest weather and choppy seas setback, the US-built aid pier off Gaza has resumed operations as of the end of this week (Thursday), the Pentagon said, after it broke apart last month. It's been an on-again off-again situation and the controversial and costly pier project has by and large proven ineffective.
But despite aid reportedly now rolling off the pier once again, Israeli media on Saturday has documented more embarrassing issues, including apparently broken off parts from the pier still washing up to shore far away from its location...

Fewer Than Half Of The Hostages In Gaza Still Alive, US Intel Believes
By Israel's official tally there should be 116 Israeli hostages still in Hamas captivity in the Gaza Strip, but new statements issued by US intelligence officials say the number of captives still alive might be as low as 50. Initially, about 250 were taken captive during the Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror attack of Oct.7.
The Wall Street Journal writes, citing a new intel review of the situation, "That assessment, based in part on Israeli intelligence, would mean 66 of those still held hostage could be dead, 25 more than Israel has publicly acknowledged." The hostages have been held for 258 days at this point.
In early June the military conducted a daring raid in central Gaza which freed four hostages, but killed scores of Palestinians, via AP.
Of the eight captives with American citizenship (dual nationals), three were previously reported by Israel to be deceased. The fact that there are Americans among ...
