Das wirtschaftliche Fundament bildet der Energiesektor mit Öl- und Gasexporten, die einen Großteil der Staatseinnahmen generieren. Ergänzend spielen Bergbau, Metallindustrie, Landwirtschaft, Rüstungswirtschaft sowie ausgewählte Technologie- und IT-Bereiche eine wichtige Rolle.
